In the fall of 1908, Russian immigrant Sam Huppin opened a humble tailor shop in downtown Spokane, WA. Upon his death in 1922, the shop passed to his teenage son, Abe Huppin.
As the years progressed, Abe and his brother Big Sam transitioned the store into a pawnbroker. During World War II, Huppin’s added military insignia to their inventory while continuing to sell stylish men’s clothing and luggage a few years later.
A third generation of family began working the store in 1953 with the arrival of Little Sam.
Shortly thereafter, the store began adding camera equipment, radios, and stereo equipment to their product mix.
Througout the ‘70s, Huppin’s slowly phased out clothing and pawnbroking to focus on consumer electronics, photo gear and stereo equipment.
Murray Huppin, current President and great-grandson of founder Sam, was brought into the family business after college in 1984. Having gained valuable experience working for Proctor & Gamble in L.A., Huppin’s began focusing on expanding the business in the mid ‘90s.
With the internet still in its infancy, OneCall.com was introduced in 1994 to tap into the budding internet marketplace.
More recently, Huppin’s has been making home cinema dreams come true by installing custom home theater systems in the Spokane, WA, and Northern Idaho areas. You may have even seen one of our blue trucks in your own neighborhood!
In 2010, we opened our second retail store location in North Spokane.
In 2012, Huppin's turned 100. After more than 100 years in downtown Spokane, we consolidated our retail stores to our N. Division location. We look forward to serving Spokane and the Inland Northwest for another 100 years and beyond.
